CabernetSauv / / SouthAustralia
Developed by the legendary John Duval, Bin 407 could only be achieved after volumes of high quality Cabernet Sauvignon became consistently available, realising the opportunity for Penfolds to develop a pure Cabernet wine, as inspired by the flagship 707, albeit at a slightly more approachable entry level. Bin 407 is true to the enduring Penfolds style, a profound construct of Cabernet, featuring strong varietal character and solid structure with ripe fruit at centre stage. French and American oak, a portion of which must be new, is there in support.

CabernetSauv Shiraz / / SouthAustralia
The Poor man's baby Grange, so called because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange. First made in 1960, this was the wine that helped to build Penfolds solid reputation with true red wine enthusiasts. Combining the structure of Cabernet with the richness of Shiraz, Bin 389 also exemplifies Penfolds skill in balancing fruit and oak. Sculptured tannins, length, weight and texture sit well. Embellishment is never required. Experiencing is believing.

CabernetSauv Shiraz / Barossa Coonawarra Langhorne McLaren / SouthAustralia
Penfolds were at the genesis of Australian viticulture and remain unique, in that they can still source fruit from some of the nation's oldest and most distinguished vineyards. Created by the legendary Max Schubert, Bin 389 is one of Australia's most cherished wines, referred to as the poor man's baby Grange, in part because components are matured with the same barrels which held the previous vintage of Grange. First made in 1960, this was the wine that helped build Penfolds solid reputation with enthusiasts of Australian first growth icon reds.

Shiraz CabernetSauv / Barossa McLaren / SouthAustralia
Offering compelling virtuosity in terms of pure drinkability and potential for cellaring, Bin 389 remains one of the stalwarts of the secondary wine market. The many vintages throughout it's distinguished history are eagerly sought by collectors. The continuity of magnificence in styling has remained unaffected by the development of viticulture and expansion of production. Still harmonious, ever seamless in it's expression of fruit and wood, vintage and winecraft, impeccably balanced between the Cabernet and Shiraz, it remains an approachable icon wine.

Shiraz CabernetSauv / Padthaway Barossa McLaren Coonawarra Wrattonbully / SouthAustralia
Max Schubert recognized that blending Cabernet with Shiraz produced an alchemy that was greater than the sum of the parts. The highly perfumed Cabernet with it's firm structure and fine grainy tannins, mated majestically with the powerful and opulent, fleshy Australian Shiraz. In combination, they form a genre of their own, a wine of power, and generousity of fruit, richness, finesse and longevity. During the 1950s, an exciting time of experimentation at Penfolds afforded Max Schubert the resources to trial and create this Australian icon wine.

Shiraz / Barossa / SouthAustralia
A hundred and seventy years after the establishment of Australia's most internationally renowned luxury brand, Penfolds have released an exceptional vintage, single vineyard Shiraz, from the highly distinguished Block 3C at Kalimna. This ancient Barossa site is often called upon to provide the backbone of fruit for the mighty Grange. The peerless quality of harvest, to be picked off Block 3C at the end of growing season 2010, merited a pure, single Bin bottling, in timely commemoration of the most eminent marque in new world wine.

Shiraz / Barossa / SouthAustralia
Bin 150 is pure Shiraz, vinified from fruit grown to a relatively tiny area of Barossa. The hamlet of Marananga lies very close to the centre of the Barossa Valley floor, slightly to the north and west, where warm, dry conditions and rich red soils create a mesolclime which has sired many of the Barossa's most conspicuous efforts. Bin 150 delivers a contemporary Shiraz style, framed by a mix of French and American oak, old and new, conceived from the ancient soils of a special place and crafted from fruit grown to one of Australia's earliest viticultural precincts.

Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre / Barossa / SouthAustralia
The Barossa Valley was planted extensively to Grenache, Mourvedre and Shiraz by early settlers. In the 1950s Penfolds started experimenting with the blend, trials which culminated in the release of Bin 138s forebears. An answer to the growing call for the highly perfumed and fleshy Rhone style of red, Bin 138 is sourced from old, low yielding Barossa Valley sites, much of the fruit from independent growers. This is a very special Penfolds red wine indeed, one of the few that remains in component form whilst maturing in small, well seasoned oak barrels.

Shiraz / Coonawarra / SouthAustralia
In 1960 Bill Redman persuaded Max Schubert to acquire a parcel of Coonawarra Terra rossa soil and the Bin 128 experience was born. It was originally labelled as Claret, and whilst the quality of Shiraz has increased immeasurably ever since, very little has changed about how Bin 128 is made, it's vinification follows the traditional Penfolds house style. One of the few Penfold wines which are sourced exclusively from a specific region, Bin 128 reflects the uniqueness of Coonawarra and the elegant, stylish expressions of cooler climate Terra rossa Shiraz.
